How to use the Classroom Job Picker

Enter your student list using the Edit List button. You can add names one at a time or paste a full class list with one name per line. Toggle the present or absent icon next to each student to control who is available for the current week.

The job list comes with twelve common classroom jobs. You can rename any job, change how many students are needed for each one, remove jobs you do not need, or add your own. Set a week label or start date, then click Generate Draft.

The tool fills all available job slots first, making sure no student gets more than one job in the same week. Then it prioritizes students who have had fewer completed jobs overall, so turns are distributed fairly across weeks. If there are more students than slots, some will be unassigned, and they get priority next time.

Generated weeks start as drafts. Drafts do not affect turn counts. When you are happy with a week, click Mark Completed to commit it to history. Only completed weeks count toward the fairness rotation. You can regenerate or delete a draft without affecting completed history.

Examples

Small classroom, weekly rotation

With 12 students and 14 total job slots, every student gets one job and two students get two. Mark the week completed. The next week, those two students are deprioritized so others can take the extra slots. Over a few weeks, the rotation balances out.

Large class, limited jobs

With 25 students and 10 job slots, 15 students are unassigned each week. The tool tracks completed turns so those 15 students get priority the following week. Use the Turn Summary to see how many jobs each student has had.

Assignment rules

By default, each active student gets at most one job per week. The tool first fills all available job slots without double-booking any student. Then it gives priority to students who have had fewer completed jobs across all previous weeks, so everyone gets a turn over time.

Generating a draft does not change turn counts. Only marking a week as completed commits those assignments to history. If you change the job list or mark students absent between weeks, the rotation adjusts automatically. Absent students are skipped for that week. The Turn Summary shows the running total for each student based on completed weeks only.
